McLaren Engineering Group was engineer of record providing civil, geotechnical, and structural engineering services for the $200 million Live! Casino Maryland in Hanover. This project was fast-tracked and went from initial design concept to grand opening in just 17 months! Civil engineering services were completed for permitting, design and construction of 14 different off-site and on-site roadway improvements, including engineering Maryland’s first Diverging Diamond Intersection. Structural engineering services were provided for the design of the foundation system and superstructure for the casino, porte cochere, central utility plant, 4,300-car / 6-level parking garage above the casino, and LED and static signage. McLaren utilized in-situ testing techniques to come up with the solution that using a ground improvement method called “Dynamic Aggregate Replacement,” would increase the allowable soil bearing pressure. This eliminated the need for a deep foundation system, and saved the project more than $2 million.
